How does it help ?
The Shanti team has worked for over 25 years to provide income and education for Thai people and a fun, learning experience for guests. Shanti’s four locations were planned and developed considering natural and social environments and impacts. Across operations, the team tries to strike a balance of the best between East and West. For example, through solar panels; organic farming and permaculture; energy saving systems; recycling; water conservation and recycling; cooling storage through wind and charcoal building; hot water for bathing through composting and working hard to produce vegetarian food in enough volume to supply to city businesses.
Shanti have successfully cared for and maintained a core team for over 20 years, working, learning and growing together. Shanti Staff live onsite and profit share in all departments and locations. Shanti staff create their own work schedule based on what is considered to be fair to each other. Social security, paid leave and maternity leave have been provided well before it was the law in Thailand. Staff may return to school by requesting a flexible work schedule.
Local people are consulted regarding any potential changes to their environment. Shanti also encourages neighbouring communities not to rely on tourism. They try to set an example by producing chemical-free fresh foods. Crops are grown for the local market and for food exchange with other farmers, improving local incomes without changing local lifestyles.
