Myanmar’s Kachin State in the Eastern Himalayas remains one of the least visited wilderness areas on earth, offering unique opportunities for true frontier exploration.
What to experience?
Putao Trekking House offers exclusive trekking programmes into a tribal land of dense forests and snow-capped mountains, which to this day remains completely cut off from the modern world.
With little in the way of roads or development in northern Myanmar, the landscape and ecosystem remain virtually intact and are internationally recognized as biodiversity hotspots. Old growth forests are a common sight, supporting a huge range of animal and bird life, while in the high alpine meadows you can find many of Asia’s rarest flowers thriving.
From their base in Putao, Putao Trekking House provides a range of adventure activities from day trekking excursions to week long hardcore hiking expeditions. Their rafting expeditions, whether on the easy Mula or Malikha Rivers or the ever challenging and adventurous Maykha river, are staffed by experienced raft guides and professional support teams.
Managed by an experienced group of travel industry professionals who have journeyed the region intensively by themselves, Putao Trekking House combine their passion for adventure with their expertise to provide you one of the most exotic holidays you ever had.
How does it help?
Putao Trekking House is committed to sustainable tourism and promote eco-friendly tourism in the region. Their aim is to maintain an intact natural and cultural environment for generations to come, by keeping with their approach towards sustainable tourism in this fragile area.
Using local guides and porters from these remote areas enables heart warming cultural interactions between staff and guests, which is a big part of what makes trekking in these isolated areas so special. They run a series of training courses for their local staff in order to uplift their pride in what they do and build confidence.
A contribution from every client is made towards the upkeep of existing community projects which include sponsoring orphanage students to school, and helping to upgrade the conditions and learning materials of local schools by means of providing furniture and books, pencils etc.
Putao Trekking House is also investing in local agriculture production such as growing rice, vegetables and live stork breeding in certain villages from where they can get their food supply during their treks, without disturbing the local source.
