What to experience ?

The Boat Landing Hotel, Luang Namtha, Laos

Riverview

The Boat Landing Guest House and Restaurant was the first Green Globe ecotourism lodge (Eco-lodge) in Laos. Located on the banks of the Namtha River in Luang Namtha, Laos’ north western province, the Boat Landing is your gateway to the natural beauty of the Nam Ha Protected Area, the Namtha River and the traditional communities living there. The Nam Ha Protected Area offers plenty of opportunity for ecotourism, birdwatchers, naturalists and those just looking for the outdoors will find intact primary tropical forest and wildlife.

The hotel can provide reliable information and assist you to plan your stay according to your own special interests. Care is taken to train staff and guides on how to interpret local culture, natural history as well as the everyday life of the people of Luang Namtha.

The restaurant serves authentic Northern Lao food. Many dishes are unique to our restaurant and to the tables of the inhabitants of Luang Namtha. Take these tastes home with you with their award winning cookbook.

Bungalows were constructed with local materials in a local Lao style. The rooms aspire to tastefully combine local tradition while providing the guests the comforts of home. Lounge on your riverside veranda watching locals fish, children swimming and boats passing on the river.

How Does it Help ?

The aim of the Boat Landing is to make tourism a positive experience for the tourists and the local Lao people. The Boat Landing promotes low-impact tourism. Visitors should come away with a greater appreciation of Luang Namtha’s culture and natural resources and the locals should gain a greater understanding of the outside world in addition to economic benefits from tourism.

This is achieved by ensuring that all of the staff are from the surrounding communities, that food and supplies are sourced locally. Local people are always consulted, it is only by their agreement that tourists are brought to their communities and under the conditions that they set. The Boat Landing works to create meaningful personal experiences for both guests and locals alike. They hire local musicians to play, buy local handicrafts to give to guests as gifts and support local festivals

The conservation of the environment is also a high priority. The Boat Landing promotes community-based tourism to communities in and around the Nam Ha Protected Area. The aim here is to give a new value to the natural and cultural resources of these communities, a value which can only be maintained by conservation.

The Boat Landing helps in other big and small ways from setting aside land for forest conservation, to promoting renewable energy, planting trees on arbor day, to working with the local community to clean up after local festivals to name just a few.
